Obituary for Donald Patrican

Donald J. Patrican, 69, of Franklin Lakes died peacefully at home on February 3, 2013. Don was born and raised in Gloucester, MA where he still holds the all-time career scoring record for the Gloucester High School basketball team, averaging 36 points per game, and achieving high school All-American status in 1961. He went on to play for University of Miami, FL, on a full scholarship and graduated in 1967. Don was a talented business man, and spent many years in the consumer electronics industry, reaching the peak of his career as Executive Vice President at Maxell Corporation of America, Woodland Park, NJ, where he was also a Corporate Officer and served on the Board of Directors. He was awarded the 1994 Human Relations Award by the American Jewish Committee, selected by his industry peers to the Best of ’98 Dealerscope Hall of Fame and was awarded the Patricia Rienzi Legacy Award by the National Consumer Technology Industry Anti-Defamation League in 2007. Don also sat on the Consumer Electronics Association’s Board of Industry Leaders from 2007 to 2009.

Don has asked to be remembered as a “good husband, good father, good friend”. His family and friends will remember Don as bigger than life, not only regarding his 6’ 7’’ frame, but also because of his talents, professional and personal, his love of family, his loyalty, and his wonderful sense of humor.

Don is survived by his wife of 27 years, Jeanne (nee Mattie) Patrican, his son, Julian Patrican of NYC, his brother David Patrican of Port Ritchie, FL, and his sisters/brothers-in-law, Janet and David Dowis of CA, Kathy and Dale Schneider of NC, Barbara and Jim Mertz of CA, Michael and Lisa Mattie of PA and Chris and Nina Mattie of NJ.

A memorial will be held February 7, 2-4pm and 7-9pm at Vander Plaat Funeral Home of Wyckoff, NJ. A funeral mass will be offered at Most Blessed Sacrament Church, Friday, Feb. 8, 11am. A gathering of family and friends will be held after the religious service. Don will be buried in Gloucester, MA.

Donations may be made in Don’s name to Infant Jesus of Prague Catholic Church at 32054 Whispering Springs Lane, P.O. Box 82, Tollhouse, CA 93667
