With great sadness, the family of Frank Alves mourns the passing of a cherished husband and
father on April 19, 2024. Frank enjoyed a career in public education devoted to young people for
35 years. He continued on for 20 years as an Adjunct Professor in the School of Education at
Seton Hall University as a Supervisor of Student Teaching Field Services.
Frank began as a teacher for the Cedar Grove (NJ) school district followed by long service in
Mahwah (NJ) Public Schools as a Supervisor and Coordinator of Cooperative Education as well
as Director of Vocational Education. His work life began at Lionel Corporation followed by
military service which included active duty in Korea. He then earned a Bachelor of Arts degree
at Kean University and achieved a Master of Arts degree in Educational Supervision at Seton
Hall University.
Frank is survived by his beloved wife, Clare, daughters Deidre and Seton and son-in-law, Jim.
Frank’s parents, Alfred and Carmella Carlucci Alves, and brothers, Joseph and Alfred Alves,
predeceased him.
Blessed to be together for 57 years, Frank and Clare enjoyed a beautiful marriage, wonderful
travels, delicious restaurants and the simple joys of just being with each other. A proud father,
Frank loved his two girls beyond words, was their first and best teacher and supported their
hopes and dreams.
A longtime parishioner at Church of the Most Blessed Sacrament, Franklin Lakes, NJ, Frank
served for decades as a minister of hospitality.
Frank was a strong, loving, generous, supportive, devoted and classy gentleman. He had a talent
for woodworking, loved landscaping and could find a way to fix anything. Those who knew
Frank well have said that he was the guy you’d want with you in any crisis— resolute, loyal,
always smiling. He cared deeply for family and friends, and he always enjoyed a good
celebration. He touched the lives of countless young people who needed someone to recognize
their potential and guide them toward a successful future.
