Agatha Hutter, 96, passed away peacefully in Franklin Lakes, NJ on September 11, 2023. She was born in Franklin Square, NY on August 18, 1927, the youngest of four children of John Von Essen and Anna Reichert. She graduated from Sewanhaka High School and took a job as a secretary at the Home Insurance Company.
In 1953, she decided to pursue a job at the military base in Wiesbaden, Germany, and along with a friend boarded a ship for Europe. The girls spent weeks touring England and Scotland, before heading to Germany. A month after returning home, Agatha met Alfons Hutter, and a year later, married him. They lived in Washington, DC and upstate New York before settling in Garden City, NY in 1962.
Agatha was a loving wife and mother. She was also an accomplished water colorist and an avid lover of music - she seemed to know every popular song from the 1940s. In 1987, she and Alfons moved from Long Island to Anderson, South Carolina, there they enjoyed a warm welcome and a most gracious retirement. She was a nursing home volunteer and active in the Anderson Arts Center. A few years after Alfons's death in 2009, she left South Carolina to be closer to family in New Jersey. She lived at the Kentshire in Midland Park and last year moved to Sunrise Franklin Lakes.
She is survived by her four children, JoAnne (Gene) Yuzawa of Wyckoff, NJ, John Hutter of Lockhart, TX, Peter (Anne) Hutter of Baldwinsville, NY, and Robert (Jennifer) Hutter of Rochester, NY, as well as five grandchildren: Haley Hutter (Kevin), James Yuzawa, David Hutter, Cordelia Hutter and Ian Hutter.
The Hutter family will receive friends on Saturday, October 21, 4:00 until 5:00 PM followed by a brief prayer service at the Vander Plaat Funeral Home, 257 Godwin Avenue, Wyckoff, NJ.
In Lieu of flowers, a donation in Agatha's memory can be made to the American Red Cross, PO Box 37839, Boone, IA 50037-0839.
