Agnes King

Agnes Gertrude Margaret “Peggy” King (née Sweeney) passed away peacefully on January 2, 2026 at the age of 89, surrounded by family. Born in Woodlawn, NY, Peggy was the third of four children.
Peggy met her husband, Ted, during a summer in the Hamptons, a season when love blooms strongest. They married and moved to Glen Rock, NJ, where they lived for over fifty years and raised their six children - Ted Jr., Jim, Maura, Kevin, Meghan, and Jennifer.

Peggy’s children were her life, which she committed to raising them. This love carried to her four in-laws, Maryann, Ralph, Kelly and Colleen, and fifteen grandchildren, T.J., Matthew, Annie, James, Kaitlin, Thomas, Colin, Allison, William, Brendan, Liam, Cooper, Riley, Lilly and Charlie. She rarely missed an opportunity to see them. It is impossible to calculate the number of sporting and school events she attended, holidays and Sunday barbecues she hosted, or visits “just because” she made over the course of her life, but it is safe to say the number is more than most.

Peggy cherished her nearly six decades in Glen Rock, where she regularly hosted and attended parties with her friends and neighbors. Between her social calendar and her 25 year career as an aide at Byrd School, Peggy’s was a recognizable and welcome face, one that will be sorely missed.

Peggy joins her husband, grandson Michael, parents James and Agnes, and brothers John and James in Heaven. She is survived by her sister Catherine, sister-in-law Maureen, six children, fifteen grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and uncountable friends and neighbors who will always remember the kind woman about town.

Friends and family are invited to join in celebrating Peggy’s life at Vander Plaat Funeral Home, 257 Godwin Ave, Wyckoff, NJ on Sunday, January 4 from 2:00 until 6:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at St. Catharine Church, 905 S Maple Avenue, Glen Rock, NJ on Monday, January 5 at 10 a.m. Interment will follow at St. Luke's Cemetery in Ho Ho Kus.
