Alicia Jane Hartgers (nee Whiteman) age 89 of Wyckoff, formerly of Franklin Lakes died peacefully on Thursday, September 2, 2021. Born in Paterson, Alicia was raised in Hawthorne and lived most of her life in Franklin Lakes. She was a graduate of Lebanon Valley College where she majored in Music and was a member of the Cheerleading Squad. In her early career Alicia taught music in the Bogota school system. She was a member of CLEAR, a counseling center in Wyckoff, where she served as president. Alicia was an avid Gardner, Tennis player and loved decorating. She was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church in Wyckoff where she sang in the choir. Alicia volunteered for the Wyckoff schools where she played piano for the many plays and Christmas Pageants.
Surviving is her loving husband of 68 years, Robert Hartgers, her devoted children, Jack, David and his wife Eva, Bobby and his wife Kristy and Gregg and his wife Tracy. Alicia also leaves her 12 adoring grandchildren, JR, Olivia, Will, Bri (John), Lauren, David, Wes, Brooke, Susan, Elizabeth, Caroline and Colin and 2 great grandchildren, Lilly and Charlie. Also surviving is her brother Charles Whiteman and his wife Phyllis.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 4 at 11:00 AM for family and close friends at the Grace United Methodist Church, 555 Russell Avenue, Wyckoff. Interment will follow in the Redeemer Cemetery in Mahwah. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Alicia’s name to Hackensack University Medical Center, John Theurer Cancer Center, 360 Essex Street, Suite 301, Hackensack, NJ 07601.
