Anny Jacobsen Obituary

Anny Jacobsen was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who found joy in her family and showered them with unconditional love.

Anny was born in Lista, Norway in 1928, to Lilly & Nikolay. She grew up on a farm, the fourth of five children. She loved the ocean, reading, animals and taking care of the family farm. Her father died suddenly when she was nine. Two years later World War II broke out and the Nazis invaded Norway. During the occupation of Norway, Nazi officers took over Anny’s family home and farm.  The officers took most of the food which left little for their family.  It was a dangerous time, but her mother hid a radio in the attic where she and her daughter tried to gather any news from the outside world.

When the war ended, jobs were scarce, so Anny moved to Gothenburg, Sweden for work. While living in Sweden she became engaged to her Norwegian childhood sweetheart, Johnny Jacobsen. They married in Norway but settled in Sweden where they started a new life together and had their first child, Linda.  After a few years the family emigrated to America where their second child, Larry, was born.

In the United States, Anny was a full-time mother/homemaker as Johnny worked as a carpenter.  She maintained an impeccable home and perfected recipes that would rival any restaurant or bakery. Her family-famous waffle recipe will be passed down through generations.

In 1959, both proudly became United States citizens. They faithfully attended church services at the 59th Street Lutheran Church and Norwegian Seamen’s Church for over 50 years.  She enjoyed traveling, entertaining, cooking, knitting, baking and loved spending time with family and friends.  It was the best of times.

Anny is predeceased by husband Johnny of 66 years who passed away in 2014. Upon her passing on August 5th, she is survived by her daughter, Linda Ostensen, son Larry Jacobsen; their spouses, Arild and Gina; five grandchildren, Krista (husband Chris), Justin (wife Carole), Tyler (fiancée Caitlin), Ryan and Lisa; and three great-grandchildren, Lindsey, Alexa and Penelope.

The family kindly requests that you please wear a facial covering during your visit.
