Anthony Domonic Basso, age 92, of Paramus, passed peacefully on Wednesday, March 4th, 2026, surrounded by family.
Anthony was born in Brooklyn, New York, on May 13, 1933, to Antonio and Annine Basso (Melfi, Italy). He is predeceased by his wife of thirty-three years, Maureen (Sweeney), and survived by his daughters Donna Basso (Paul Hartman), Laura Gillen (Ed), Toni Clark (Matthew); grandchildren Logan, Aiden, Domonique Gillen-Summers (Jake), Jake, and Dylan; predeceased by his brothers, Salvatore and Louis; survived by his sister, Marie Kuhn and sister in law, Anne Basso; nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; and survived by his loving partner, Doria Guadagnoli.
Tony was a New York City boy through and through, proud of his military service in the US Army. Inspired by his childhood friends, he earned a degree from Hunter College in New York City, which led to his professional career as a compensation and benefits analyst at Esso and then American Cyanamid. This position led to travel to Sao Paolo, Mexico City, South Africa, and Rio de Janeiro. He retired in 1994 and began his favorite career as ‘Grandpa.’
At seventy-five years old, Tony met a very special someone at a dance. Doria brought him a second chance at love. This led to weekly dancing, beautiful meals, and laughter, as well as a rediscovery of his roots with many trips to Italy.
Tony was best known for his smooth dance moves, being the best girl dad, keeping a meticulous budget, and following the market daily.
He was also a hands-on grandpa, spending endless time with his five grandchildren. Happiest moments were spending time with his family dining al fresco.
Tony made everyone he came across in life feel welcome, respected, appreciated, and cared for. He was a gentle soul who will be missed by those who were fortunate to cross his path.
