Exchanging time for eternity, Anthony Van Grouw, Jr., M.D. passed away on December 5, 2024.
Born on September 5, 1941 in Paterson, NJ, Dr. Van Grouw graduated from Eastern Christian after which he obtained a degree from Upsala College. He received his M.D. degree from New York Medical College and married his wife of 58 years, Janyce Vander Have of Prospect Park, NJ. A veteran serving in the Army during the Vietnam War, he practiced Orthopedics at the DeWitt Memorial Hospital in Fort Belvoir, Virginia. He then went on to finish a formal orthopedic residency at the New Jersey College of Medicine. Starting his private practice of orthopedics in Midland Park, he was on the staff for nearly thirty years at The Valley Hospital in Ridgewood, NJ and served on many hospital committees. He was always very active in the Wyckoff community where he served for many years on the Boards of the Eastern Christian Children’s Retreat and the Christian Health Care Center.
A major heart attack forced him to retire from private medical practice in 2004. His second career opportunity saw him teaching at Michigan State Medical School and Zion Christian School in Michigan. He and his wife now reside in Florida where they enjoy traveling and spending time with their family.
Dr. Van Grouw is survived by his wife Janyce (Vander Have); his three children, Anthony Van Grouw(Karen), David Van Grouw, and Meghan Kwekel (Calvin); brother Raymond Van Grouw (Cheryl); eight grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren.
The Van Grouw family will receive friends Wednesday, December 11, 2024 4:00 - 8:00 PM at the Vander Plaat Funeral Home, 257 Godwin Avenue, Wyckoff, NJ. A funeral service will be held Thursday, December 12, 2024 11:00 AM at Free Reformed Church, 160 West Parkway, Pompton Plains, NJ. Interment will follow at Wyckoff Reformed Church Cemetery.
