Arne Otto Soderlund

Arne Soderlund, 93, passed away on Tuesday, February 7, 2023. He was a loving Father, Grandfather and a devoted husband. He will be greatly missed.

Arne was born in New York City in 1929, he spent his early childhood in Sweden before moving back to the USA in the 1930’s. He served in the USAF during the Korean War and studied electrical engineering after discharge. Arne met Elinor and the two were married in 1960. They lived and raised a family in Long Island, NY before moving to Bergen County, NJ in the ‘70’s. Arne and Ellie moved to Pompton Plains, NJ 4 years ago from Wyckoff, NJ.

Arne retired in the mid ‘90’s after a career as an electrical engineer. He was an accomplished musician and vocalist. He was a parishioner at St. Elizabeth’s Church in Wyckoff and was a member of the choir. He devoted much of his time as a volunteer for various Church sponsored charities. He regularly offered his talents as a piano player at Ridgewood’s Valley Hospital. Arne enjoyed many hobbies, and belonged to many organizations through retirement.

Arne is survived by his loving children: Eric and his wife Jeanine, Gary and his wife Linda, Jon and his wife Janice, Jennifer and her husband Bill Jones, Karen and her husband Tim Mann, and, his 9 grandchildren: Ryan, Kyle, Connor, Sean, Ian, Allison, Jack, Anna and Luke, and his 1 great granddaughter Vienna.  Arne is also survived by his sister-in-law Eileen Howe and her husband Jim, and his sister-in-law Betty MacNulty. Arne was predeceased by his loving wife of 61 years, Ellie in 2021.

The family will receive friends from 4:00 to 7:00 pm on Thursday at the Vander Plaat Funeral Home, www.vpfh.com, 257 Godwin Ave. Wyckoff, NJ. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11:30 am on Friday at St. Elizabeth’s Church, 700 Wyckoff Ave., Wyckoff, NJ. Cremation will be private.
