Arthur (Artie) Rynander, was a proud Navy veteran, beloved husband, father, and grandfather; he was 88 and passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by family members on June 24, 2025.
Born in Brooklyn, NY, to Arthur E. Rynander Sr. and Elizabeth Rynander (nee Merkin) and had two sisters: Patricia Thompson (Jack Thompson) and Helen Antenucci (Carl Antenucci). He is predeceased by all. Arthur is a long-time resident of Midland Park, NJ.
Arthur served in the US Navy from 1955-1959 (peacetime) and has seen many destinations with Japan being his favorite! After this, he was a Securities Trader at Smith Barney, in New York.
He was predeceased by his wife, Olive “Joyce” Rynander (nee Wells) and by many brother and sister-in-laws, as Joyce was one of 10 children with 2 surviving siblings: Norma Mackie and Roy Wells.
He is survived by his children, Edward Rynander III, Nancy Pinelli and husband Silvestro Pinelli, Jon Rynander and his wife Sonja and his grandchildren, Edward Thomas and Andrew Joseph Rynander. He is also survived by his furry grandchildren: Leo, Oscar, Eden and Rocky – he adored them!
There are many nieces and nephews, some have passed and many alive with too many to list – he loved and will miss you all!
Although, stubborn to the end, he was a kind, fun-loving man who has opened up his home to help many family members throughout the years and loved doing so. If you needed help, he was there, whether personally or monetarily. He would give you the shirt off his back if you asked – that was the type of man he was.
He was witty! If he did not make fun of you…that meant he did not like you! He was a seasonal camper at Russell Brook Campsites in Roscoe, NY and would come up on weekends and vacation days to spend time with many family members besides his own to fish, sit at the campfire, and play games for well needed relaxation. He took his family on various fishing outings, played cards with family and golfed with his buddies. He was also a Scout Master for two years for Boy Scout Troup 157 in Midland Park and prior to that had always helped them out.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Arthur’s memory to Shriners Hospitals for Children, Processing Center, P.O. Box 947765, Atlanta, GA 30394. Why you ask? Because he and our mother loved the commercial with “Alex” and thought he was adorable! http://www.lovetotherescue.org/
He will be missed beyond words and never forgotten!
The Rynander Family will receive friends at the Vander Plaat Funeral Home, 257 Godwin Avenue, Wyckoff, NJ on Friday, June 27, 2025, from 4:00 until 8:00 pm. A prayer service will be held at 7:30 pm.
