Barbara Louise Parmeland, 72, of Ringwood, NJ, formerly Wyckoff, NJ, passed away on Saturday, April 5, 2025.
Born in Paterson, NJ, she was the daughter of the late James Buryl and Marion May (Graham) Hackler.
Barbara dedicated many years of her life as a registered nurse at various facilities throughout northern NJ. Beginning her career as an RN in the emergency room at St Joseph’s hospital in Paterson and retiring at the Health Center at Bloomingdale, she dedicated years to the care of welfare of others. As a longtime member of Ramapo Valley Baptist Church in Oakland, NJ, Barbara’s ministry of her faith was through service of caring. Her overwhelming empathy never wavered, she would take the time to make any person, friend, family, or complete stranger comfortable through care or a simple conversation.
Her children fondly remember her bringing home treasures she had found at various junk shops and the pride she would have in those items. Whether it was a secondhand rocking chair or pieces of broken plates she would spread throughout her garden, her enthusiasm for a good find was contagious.
She is survived by her daughter, Jill Parmeland, and her daughter’s partner, Alfonso Gonzalez, along with their two children, Romy and Veda; and by her son, Kevin Parmeland, and his wife, Sarah; her sisters, May (Bernie) Tanis, and Ann Hackler; as well as many beloved nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her former husband, Donald Parmeland.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and her sister, Joan MacMillan.
Friends and family will be received from 9:30AM to 11AM on Friday April 11, 2025, at Vander Plaat Funeral Home. 257 Godwin Ave, Wyckoff, NJ 07481. Funeral Service will follow beginning at 11AM.
