Bernard Grogan Obituary

Bernard H. Grogan “Bud”, Age 87, of Wyckoff, NJ, Passed away peacefully in his sleep the morning of Friday, January 27, 2023. Bud was born in Elmira NY on December 30, 1935, the son of Dorothy and Hubert Hyland Grogan Bud graduated from Elmira High School in 1953, served two tours of duty in the United States Navy with 2 additional years with the US Army Reserves. After completing his Military Service, Bud worked a line mechanic for the Crown, Cork and Seal Corporation of North Bergen, NJ. Upon retirement Bud continued to work as a school custodian and crossing guard.
On November 5, 1960, Bud married Augusta Elizabeth Haas of Wyckoff NJ and had four children. Bud was a dedicated family man, the health, happiness and well being of his family was always his top priority. He always made time for his wife, children and extended family and they never for one second questioned his love and dedication. Bud was the family rock, the strong one we could all rely on, good under pressure and able to carry the load of responsibility without showing any apprehension. Behind the scenes, in the presence of his family Bud was also a child at heart, he loved to watch cartoons with his children, crack jokes and was not afraid to get into a little harmless mischief with his children.  Bud would rarely call his wife and children by their given names, having given each member of the  family nicknames which were expressions of love to each. To his wife Augusta “Squeeks” and his children, Bernard Jr. “Buddy”, Dorraine “Rainy Ree”, Dwight “Dwitchit” and Jennifer “Miss Mouse”, these names meant “I love you” every time they he said them.

Bud was known by many names to his family and friends, to his wife “hun”, to his children “Dad, Daddy and “Poppa Smurf”, to his Grandchildren “Poppa” and to many of his friends “Bernie”, but no matter which name he answered to, you always knew he was there for you when you needed him. Bud’s love of family meant his entire family, whether that family came from blood, marriage, or close personal friendships, everyone was Bud’s family. The terms “In-Law, Step or Half” didn’t exist in Bud’s world, he had 2 brothers and a sister growing up, and his wife Augusta’s brothers and sisters were his brothers and sisters, her parents were also his parents.

Bud found pleasure doing the simple things like tinkering around in the garage, going fishing, watching tv with his family, family vacations, and family holidays. If it involved home and family, it was a good day. Above all else Bud’s greatest achievement in life was what he gave to his family, he gave his unconditional love, his wisdom, his kindness, and his devotion. He gave to them the things money can’t buy and can never be replaced. His presence will be missed each and every day, but everything he gave to us will be forever carried in our hearts and souls forever.
We know you are always with us and will be watching out for us until we are reunited once more.  With the greatest love and admiration, we say “So Long” never good-bye, to an amazing Husband, Dad, Poppa, Brother, Friend.

Bud is survived by his loving wife of 62 years Augusta; Children, Buddy (Dawn) Grogan, Dorraine Grogan, Dwight (Larry) Grogan, and Jennifer (Gary) Friedman; Grandchildren, Derek and Jaelynn; Brothers and Sisters, Doris, Louie, Douglas, Madelyn, Carl, and Diane; Multiple Nieces and Nephews, Cousins, and Friends; and his canine companion Casey.
