Bernard "Bernie" Campbell, Jr. Obituary

Bernard “Bernie” Joseph Campbell, Jr. passed away in Suffern, NY, on October 15th, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.

Bernie was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 61 years, Kathleen; his parents, Bernard Sr. and Roseanne “Rose” Campbell (née Mullen); his brother, Thomas “Tommy” Campbell; cousin, Bernard “Scotty” Wallace; and in-laws, Donald “Dan” and Catherine (née McGoldrick) O’Leary.

Bernie is survived by his devoted children: Suzanne O’Rahilly, Donald and wife Eileen, Bernard "Bernie" III and wife Caroline “Carrie,” Kathleen and husband Jean DerSimonian. Cherished “Popeye” to his grandchildren: Kathleen “Katie” and husband Matthew Flynn; Christina “Tina” O’Rahilly; Daniel and partner Hannale; Christopher and partner Sierra; Fallon, Andrew, and Caitlin Campbell; Dylan and Ciara DerSimonian. Beloved great-grandfather of Kayleigh and Cillian Flynn, and Maaike and Isolde Campbell.

Throughout his life, Bernie was a resident of Manhattan, Kingsbridge, and Waldwick, and spent many joyful summers in Rockaway and Long Beach Island.

A man of deep Catholic faith, Bernie met the love of his life, Kathleen, at Annunciation Parish, where they were later married on September 15, 1962. Together, they raised their family as active members of St. John’s Parish and Visitation Church, instilling in their children and grandchildren the importance of faith, love, and community.

Bernie proudly served his country as a Corporal in the United States Marine Corps. Following his military service, he worked as a skilled Lithographer for Macnaughton Einson Lithograph Co. Yet, his most meaningful roles were those he held within his family—as a devoted son, husband, father, uncle, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. To Bernie, family was everything.

A proud Marine to the end, Bernie found community and comfort among fellow veterans at the American Legion, an organization dear to his heart.
