Bettie Robinson Obituary

Bettie Korsan Robinson, 94, died January 8, 2021. Bettie was born on May 18, 1926 in Canton, OH. Her parents were Anna Jeffers Korsan and Paul William Korsan. Her sister, Jean Dunning, of Cleveland, OH predeceased her. She grew up in Rochester, PA and moved to Pittsburgh, PA after graduating from high school. She attended Muskingum College in Ohio and was a member of Delta Gamma sorority. Then she worked at The Art Institute of Pittsburgh while attending night school at Carnegie-Mellon. While he was in the University of Pittsburgh Medical School, she married Dr. Harry Walberg in 1950.  During their marriage, they had three children. Bettie became very active in her community, serving on the board of several organizations, an active volunteer at the local hospital, and serving her church as a Deacon, head of the Primary Department of the Sunday School, and coordinating the Vacation Bible School for preschoolers.  She was active in the Garden Club for 30 years, winning many blue ribbons and Pennsylvania State Garden Club Education Awards.  She was an instructor of basket weaving at Sweetwater Art Center in Sewickley, Pennsylvania and was a student of ceramics for 20 years, throwing on the pottery wheel. Bettie attended Hixson’s School of Commercial Floral Design in Cleveland, Ohio and eventually started her own small business combining floral design and basket making.  She married her childhood friend, Colonel Robert Robinson in 1996 at age 70. They enjoyed life together in Columbus, GA for over 22 years until his death in 2018.  She is survived by her three children: Mark Walberg, M.D., Ph.D. and his wife Barbara of Dallas TX; Janet Rankin, Ph.D. and her husband Robert of Blacksburg, VA; and Joanie Troast and her husband Doug of Ho-Ho-Kus, NJ; and seven grandchildren: Riley Walberg, Emelia Walberg, Lena Rankin, Jackson Rankin, Keenan Troast, Duncan Troast, Chloe Troast. A memorial service will be held in the future when the pandemic allows safe gatherings.
