Betty Buis

Elizabeth Ann “Betty” Buis, 85, of Wyckoff, NJ died peacefully at home on Monday, October 7, 2024. 

Born in Passaic, NJ she grew up in Clifton and earned her teaching degree from William Paterson college. She loved teaching 3rd grade at both Preakness and Theunis Day elementary schools. In retirement, she returned to teaching as a tutor at Huntington Learning Center 

After marrying, Betty moved to Wyckoff, where she lived until her passing. She attended Wyckoff Baptist Church and later Hawthorne Gospel and enjoyed singing hymns. She also loved to garden, bird watch and take walks at the Wyckoff Wildlife Center.

Betty was a kind and caring daughter, sister, wife, mother and grandmother. She is survived by her children Cyndi and John, their father, Joe, sister Margaret and grandchildren Abbie and Adam. 

Visiting hours are 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Friday, October 11 at the Vander Plaat Funeral Home, www.vpfh.com, 257 Godwin Ave. Wyckoff, NJ. 

A graveside service will be 10:00 am on Saturday at the Fair Lawn Memorial Cemetery in Fair Lawn.
