Bronwen Evans Obituary

Bronwen Baur Evans, known as Bron by family and friends, resident of Glen Rock NJ, passed away February 28, 2026, at the Valley Hospital following a long and courageous battle with Amyloidosis.

She was born on Oct.12, 1960 in Ridgewood Valley Hospital. She was the beloved sister to Glenn L. Evans

(Marianne Warner) of West Bath, ME, and Megan E. King (Jonathan) of Brookline, NH. She leaves behind three nieces and two nephews: Morgana, Hilary, Arlen, Dylan and Ethan whom she loved dearly. She enjoyed keeping up with her nieces' and nephews' lives and unfailingly sent birthday and Christmas cards yearly to each member of her family.

She is predeceased by her parents Robert B. and Jean E. Evans.

She was a lifelong member of the Glen Rock Community Church where she participated in the choir and handbells for many years. She was also part of the consistory. As a lover of books, her first job, not surprisingly, was at the Glen Rock Public Library.

She graduated from Glen Rock High School in 1979. She followed her love of reading and writing and graduated with an English degree from Mount Holyoke College1983. She worked as a journalist for different local papers in Massachusetts and New Jersey.

In 1984, she was drawn to China to teach English as a second language at Zhejiang University and East China Geological Institute. On returning to the states she gained her Masters in Teaching English as a Second Language from Columbia University Teachers College in 1989. She worked for several import/export businesses including Mitsui & Co in Ohio and UTC in New Jersey, but always tutored or taught English in the evenings or on weekends, because this was truly her gift and passion. She taught at Lorain Community College and Cuyahoga Community College in Ohio and was teaching at Passaic Community College in New Jersey for the last several years.

A celebration of life will be held 11:00 AM with a reception to follow at 12:00 noon at the Glen Rock Community Church on Saturday April 25.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Glen Rock Community Church or Mount Holyoke College (English Department).
