Carol Ann Smith, 78, passed away peacefully at home with her family by her side on December 12, 2024. Devoted mother to Cheryl. Adored mother in-law to Larry. Loving step-mother to Blair and Tyler. Cherished grandmother to Skylar and Grace. Dear sister to JoAnn, Frank(Maryann), Susan(John) and Rosanne(Kenny). Beloved aunt to Jay, Kris, Franky and Tammy. Adoring great aunt to Riley, Colbie, and James. She is predeceased by her husband Alden, and her parents Frank and Fanny Cerbo.
Carol lived the fullest of lives.
Born in West New York to a big Italian family, she soon moved to Leonia where she would live the majority of her life with her family and eventually her husband, Alden.
Carol’s career was very important to her from a young age and she quickly rose up the ranks to a top Executive Assistant in NYC. She was highly respected for her devotion to her job and her ability to get anything and everything completed.
Her biggest love and passion though was for her family. When Carol’s first granddaughter was born, she soon retired and her most rewarding title of “Grammy” began. As a Grammy she never missed a concert or play or the opportunity to give her granddaughters a hug.
Her leisure time was often spent with her family playing poker or going to Atlantic City with her beloved sisters and daughter. She was always the first in line for a sweet dessert or a delicious meal but somehow never gained a pound.
Carol’s friends and family loved her for her kind soul. She always made time to listen and gave the best advice. She was truly beautiful inside and out.
In her last years she fought cancer with bravery, dignity and grace.
She will forever be missed and loved.
A celebration of Carol’s life will take place on Sunday, December 15th, 2024 with a visitation from 12-3pm and a Word of Remembrance Ceremony at 2:30pm at Vander Plaat Funeral Home, 257 Godwin Ave. Wyckoff, NJ 07481.
