Carol Waldeck Obituary

Carol Ann Waldeck, affectionately known as "Grammy," passed away peacefully on May 30th, at the age of 89, with her sons by her side.

Born in 1934 in Midland Park, New Jersey, Carol was a devoted sister, mother, grandmother, and friend. She is survived by her brother, Bill Douma, and his wife, Carol; her sons, Tom Waldeck and his wife, Marcie, and Ken Waldeck and his wife, Sandy; her grandchildren, Greg Wyrick, Dan Waldeck and his wife, Lauren, Tyler Waldeck, Kurtis Waldeck, and Jessica Harte and her husband, Ryan.

Carol grew up in Midland Park, where she graduated from high school before attending typing school. She began her working life at the Wyckoff Town Hall and was a dedicated church organist, playing on Sunday mornings—something she loved dearly.

She then went on to meet Addison Waldeck, or as the kids called him, “Poppy,” the love of her life. They met, and soon after got married in Irving Park Christian Reformed Church. Ad was a police officer in Ramsey, and they loved sharing late-night pizza and playing cards after his shifts. Together, they had two sons, Tom and Ken, and made many happy memories raising them.

As their family grew, so did Carol’s joy. She was a deeply involved grandmother—her grandchildren were the light of her life. Known for her famous snacks, from Lebanon cream cheese roll-ups to ShopRite donuts, Grammy was always ready with a treat and a warm hug. Christmas mornings were especially meaningful to her, filled with family, gifts, and joyful chaos—all under her smiling gaze.

Carol's favorite moments were those spent simply being with the people she loved. She never missed a chance to connect, faithfully calling family and friends every evening to catch up, share stories, or enjoy a little gossip. Whether sitting on her porch watching birds, enjoying lunch with friends at the Holland Home, or savoring a glass of wine or a margarita, she found joy in life’s little pleasures.

The best of Grammy’s memories were made in Long Beach Island with Poppy and her family. She loved relaxing on the porch, enjoying steamers and clams casino, and watching the sunset. Birthdays were celebrated with excitement, always surrounded by the 18th Street crew, LBI was her happy place — filled with laughter, love, and togetherness.

Carol will be remembered for her kindness, her unwavering love for her family, and the warmth she brought into every room. Her legacy lives on in the many lives she touched and the countless memories she helped create. She will be missed beyond words but forever held close in our hearts.
