Catherine DeAngelis at age 99 and formerly of Franklin Lakes, NJ passed away on November 17, 2021. Catherine was born in New Orleans, Louisiana on August 11, 1922, where she lived with her parents and three sisters. until she married her late husband, Lt. Colonel Michael DeAngelis.
Catherine graduated from Sacred High School in New Orleans and had a one year Associate Business degree. In 1941 she began working in a civil service position for the US Government. In 1943 she met her future husband, Officer DeAngelis, who was stationed in New Orleans before his deployment to the Philippines. They were married in January of 1946.
As the spouse of an Army career Officer, Catherine, and the family traveled to and lived in many parts of the world and the United States over a 20-year period. She experienced life in the cities of Japan, Austria, Italy, Germany, and multiple cities throughout the United States before finally settling in Franklin Lakes in 1962. Catherine treasured these years of life and travel in the military and often regaled stories in rich detail about this part of her life.
Catherine belonged to the Most Blessed Sacrament Roman Catholic church in Franklin Lakes, NJ. She was also a member of the Women’s Club of Franklin Lakes and the Senior Citizens Club of Franklin Lakes. Catherine enjoyed playing tennis in her younger days as wells as bridge, which she continued playing often well into her early 90’s. Catherine also deeply loved her relationship with her family and friends and cherished her relationship with her two grandchildren.
Catherine is survived by her three beloved children, Kathleen Voigt and her husband Tim, Laura Sacks and her husband Robert, Michael DeAngelis, and his wife Kathy, her two cherished grandchildren, Brian Sacks and Kristen Amalfe. She is also survived by her beloved sister Rosemary Esparros, who she adored and spoke to every night promptly at 8:00pm without fail.
Catherine was predeceased by her loving husband, Lt. Colonel Michael DeAngelis, her parents, Frank Caminita and Rosalie Scramuzza and her two beloved sisters Flora Messina and Elena Carubba, all from New Orleans.
The family will receive family and friends on Monday, November 22, 2021, at 1pm to 4pm at Vander Plaat Funeral Home, www.vpfh.com, 257 Godwin Avenue, Wyckoff, NJ.
