Charles J Swensen

Charles J. Swensen, 81, of Mahwah, NJ, passed away on January 14, 2022. Charlie was born and raised in West New York, where he met the love of his life, Joan, in 1957. They married in 1963, and lived in Bergenfield for 25 years, where they raised their four children. Charlie and Joan shared 56 years of faith, love, and commitment until Joan’s passing in 2019. As a student, basketball player, coach, teacher and respected administrator, Charlie was a staple in the West New York community for over 50 years, often described as “the nicest man I know.” Charlie is survived by his children, Chad Swensen, Jodi Culloty, Eric Swensen and Stacey Bogert; son-in-law, David Culloty, daughter-in-law, Lisa Swensen, son-in-law, Brian Bogert; his sisters, Noreen Cavari and Virginia McGall, brother, Jim Swensen; and his six precious grandchildren: Amanda, Timmy, Casey, Danny, Carl and Jack. 

The family will receive friends on Thursday, January 20th from 4pm-8pm at Vander Plaat Funeral Home 257 Godwin Avenue, Wyckoff, NJ 07481. 

A funeral mass will be celebrated on Friday, January 21st at 10:00 a.m. at St. Elizabeth Roman Catholic Church, 700 Wyckoff Avenue, Wyckoff, NJ. All to meet at church.  The Mass will be live stream at : https://saintelizabeths.org/live-streaming

Interment Redeemer Cemetery, Mahwah.
