Charlie Smith

Albert Charles Smith (aka Charlie, Mr. Dirty), husband, father and grandfather, peacefully passed away in his sleep just before midnight on Wednesday November 12, 2025. Beloved husband of 53 years of Hope Claire Cimmino. Loving father of Alison Celina, and Carla Nadine, proud grandfather of Layla Sinead, Nicholas Charles, and Gian Carlo. Loving brother, uncle, cousin, trusted friend and neighbor to so many others. Charlie was pre-deceased by his father Albert Tunis Smith, mother Alice Mulder, brother Henry Tunis, and sister Anna Becky. Charlie was born in Midland Park, NJ on August 17, 1927. Charlie and Hope married on September 18, 1960, and would spend the next 53 years in Midland Park, adding Alison (1962), and Carla (1966) until Hope’s passing in 2013. He loved reading, learning, singing his own made-up songs, good wine and bad, always with ice, going on day trips with his wife, antiquing, and 1010 wins in an incessant loop on the radio. He loved listening to old country songs, screaming at the TV while watching his New York Giants and was also a very big fan of relaxing.  He hated wearing a suit and was always the most unassuming intelligence in the room. His sense of humor, kind heart and warmth touched so many lives and made people naturally gravitate toward him. He was almost always in a good mood unless Hope was yelling at him to do something…………anything. Thank you for teaching us to find the hilarity in everything. We truly loved you and will desperately miss you.  We will honor your long beautiful life and fondest of memories of you by making the most of each and every day.  Until we see you again…

The Smith Family will receive friends on Monday, November, 17, 2025 from 10:00 - 11:00 AM at the Vander Plaat Funeral Home, 257 Godwin Ave, Wyckoff, NJ. A Graveside Service will follow at Maryrest Cemetery, 770 Darlington Ave, Mahwah, NJ.
