Craig Gawel

Craig Gawel 72, of Ridgewood NJ passed away suddenly on March 11, 2023. Craig graduated from St Joseph Regional High School in Montvale NJ. He went on to earn his degree in Chemistry from New England College. His passion for science could only be matched by his love of sports--which included time playing on his college Lacrosse team. 

Craig was an accomplished chemist. And while working at the Feinstein Institute for Medical Research at North Shore Hospital, he co-authored and published numerous articles based on his findings in genetics and cancer research. His career also took him to Memorial Sloan Kettering Hospital as a skilled DNA sequencer.

He was a loyal Dallas Cowboy fan--always waiting for that next Super Bowl win. But he also enjoyed a variety of seasonal sports and had the tee shirt collection to prove it.

Craig was a devoted son to Boleslaw and Nanette (Yotnakparian)

And to his surviving sisters Barbara and Cindy, he was brother, friend, confidant, teacher.

A gentle man with a caring heart, he was a giant among his numerous cousins.  He was at times surrogate father, stabilizing force, with just the right amount of mischievousness.
