Cyril J Hanley

Cyril Hanley passed away peacefully on May 10, 2026, at the age of 96, surrounded by the love of his family after a life defined by devotion, service, and quiet strength.

Born in Chicago, Illinois, Cyril moved as a young child to New York City and later to Edgewater, New Jersey. He deeply loved his country and never took for granted the opportunities it afforded him and his parents, who emigrated from Ireland in search of a better life. He proudly served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War, carrying that same sense of dedication, integrity, and patriotism throughout his life.

Cyril spent his entire professional career with Bendix Corporation as an engineer in the aerospace industry, where he was respected for his intelligence, strong work ethic, and unwavering commitment.

Above all, Cyril was devoted to his family. He was married to the love of his life, Jean Rizzo Hanley, and together they shared nearly 70 wonderful years of marriage. They would have celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary on May 27.

Cyril and Jean raised their family in Wyckoff, New Jersey. He was the beloved father of Patricia Ela and her husband, Tom; David Hanley; and Bonnie Tuite and her husband, Bob. He was also the proud and loving grandfather of Thomas Ela and his wife, Bailey, Connor Tuite, Brendan Tuite, and Aidan Tuite.

Cyril will be remembered as a loving husband, devoted father, and wonderful grandfather who never hesitated to get down on the floor to play with his grandsons, creating memories they will carry with them forever. His kindness, humility, and steady presence will be deeply missed and forever cherished.

The family will receive relatives and friends on Monday May 18,2026 11am-1pm at the Vander Plaat Funeral Home 257 Godwin Ave. Wyckoff, NJ. Funeral Service 1pm at the Funeral Home.
