David Lindsay Conner III, 96, passed away peacefully on December 23 at his cherished home in Franklin Lakes, surrounded by the family he adored.
Born in 1927, Lindsay led a life characterized by connection, dedication, and an irrepressible joy for people. He graduated from Pompton Lakes High School in 1934, where he excelled as student
council president and captain of the baseball team, setting the stage for a lifetime of leadership and camaraderie.
Lindsay honed his craft as a machinist during his early years at Curtiss-Wright, where his passion for precision and problem-solving took root. He later enlisted with the 119th Fighter Squadron in the Air National Guard, serving with the same devotion he brought to every aspect of his life.
In 1964, Lindsay founded Tracer Tool and Machine Co. in Oakland, NJ, and poured more than 60 years into building not just a business, but a community of colleagues and friends. His impact earned him the title of Bergen County’s Businessman of the Year in 1967—a testament to his skill, vision, and unwavering work ethic.
Summers at Long Beach Island were a source of joy for Lindsay. There, he found his happy place on the golf course, sharing rounds (and the same five-dollar bill) with his close-knit foursome. His love of fitness extended year-round at the Wyckoff YMCA, where he was affectionately known as the “Mayor of the Pool.” Lane One, playfully dubbed “the Lane of Love,” was his domain—always open to newcomers, especially if they needed a welcoming hand. His annual Christmas luncheon for his pool friends became a tradition, brimming with laughter and gratitude for the bonds he nurtured.
Lindsay’s warmth and charm were irresistible. He made strangers feel like lifelong friends and took genuine interest in everyone he met. “How are you?” was more than a question; it was an invitation to connect, to laugh, and to feel truly seen.
Lindsay leaves behind a family who cherished him: his daughter, Kathleen Ridkes; his son, David Lindsay Conner IV and wife Barbara Conner; Diane Ridkes; David Lindsay Conner V; and three great-grandchildren, Micaela and Joseph Ridkes and David Lindsay Conner VI. He is reunited with his beloved wife, Dolores; his grandson, Michael Ridkes; and his sister, Kathleen Wolaniuk.
Lindsay loved fiercely and was deeply loved in return. His legacy of kindness, dedication, and joy will live on in the countless lives he touched.
