Donald P. Demers, 79, passed away on August 26, 2023 in his home in Midland Park, NJ. He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Helen B. Demers (nee Hoey) and was the proud and
loving father of five children; Christine and her husband Michael Pane, Debbie and her husband Drew Diamantis, Don Jr., Andrew and his wife Jen and Kevin and a devoted grandfather to his 10 grandchildren; Marty, John, Connor, Courtney, Oliver, Vivian, Celia, Paige, Molly and Colin.
Donald was born in Yonkers, NY to Arthur and Irma Demers and is survived by his brother Henry. He grew up in Dumont and Plainfield, NJ. Donald graduated from Plainfield High School. He went on to get an undergraduate degree in Finance from Pace University and earned his MBA at CCNY. He was a member of the National Guard for six years. Donald worked on Wall Street for 35 years as a Portfolio Manager for several firms including Manufacturer Hanover, Axe Houghton, and Scandia. Donald and Helen raised their family in Glen Rock, NJ and he was active in coaching Glen Rock recreational youth soccer and baseball, volunteering in Boy Scouts and Indian Princesses, a member of the Glen Rock Jaycees, was president of the Independence Day Association in 1976, and was head judge for the Glen Rock 4th of July Parade for many years. His children attended St. Catherine’s School and he volunteered in many school and parish events. When he finally retired, he became known as “Do It All Don” and enjoyed sharing his talents to improve others' homes. As a parishioner at The Church of the Nativity in Midland Park, Donald was a Eucharistic minister for several years and he and his wife Helen brought communion to Mills Gardens.
Donald loved fishing at his vacation home in Schroon Lake, NY, and playing ping pong at the YMCA. He also loved salvaging cars and restoring them. His prized possessions were his Austin Healy, Vespa Scooter, and collection of antiques and tools. He was a fun prankster with a good heart & was always ready to lend a helping hand.
