Westra, Donald William Jr, 58, went home to be with his precious Savior and Lord on November 23, 2021 surrounded by family. Born in Paterson, NJ on July 14, 1963, he grew up in Wayne and lived almost all of his adult life in North Haledon. He is preceded in death by his father, Donald William Westra, Sr. He was a member of Cornerstone Christian Church in Wyckoff.
Don was a loving and devoted husband to his wife Mary (Abma) for 34 years. Beloved father to son, Zacharie Westra of North Haledon and fiancé Alyssa Provencher, son Justin Westra and wife Heather (De Bel) of Ringwood, and son Dylan Westra of North Haledon; cherished son of Judith Westra; and much–loved brother of Pam (Westra) Abma and husband Jim Abma of Wyckoff, Michael Westra and wife Sandra (Heeringa) of North Haledon, and John Westra and wife Kristin (Popjes) of Pequannock. Beloved brother-in-law to Sam and Anna Abma, Dave and Patty Abma, Tom and Luann Abma and Steve and Rebecca Abma. Much loved uncle to many nieces and nephews.
Don graduated from Eastern Christian High School in 1981 and faithfully invested his professional career with the family business, Wayne Tile Company. Don had a passion and creative gift for making things better and more beautiful, and this included things like his yard and flower gardens, his home and his Wayne Tile showrooms. This passion for bettering things also included an investment in other people’s lives, as evident through years of service as an elder at Cornerstone Church, leading marriage-mentoring group for young couples, roles on the boards of New City Kids and Christian Health, as well as the town planning board for the borough of North Haledon.
Don had a fun, adventuresome, and competitive nature, as his family can well attest, and few people can tell a story like he could. He loved spending time in the Adirondack Mountains, boating, skiing, snowmobiling, and golfing, and was a loyal fan of the NY Giants and NJ Devils. Don faced his final journey with peace, courage, and an unwavering trust in God’s plan.
“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, and I have remained faithful.”
2 Timothy 4:7.
“Well done, my good and faithful servant.”
Matthew 25:21
