Douglas K. Harris passed away peacefully on Friday, December 25, 2020 at the age of 75. Born in Paterson, he was a long time resident of Allendale. Doug was a true patriot, Vietnam Veteran, proud American, and Civil War history buff. Since childhood, he enjoyed visiting the Jersey Shore, loved road trips to Florida, Tennessee, and Civil War battlefields. He was a loyal Tennessee Volunteers fan and their lucky charm at every football game he attended. Anyone that knew Doug knew he was hardworking, down-to-earth, had a dry sense of humor and was our very own personal meteorologist. He took pride in everything he accomplished in his life. Doug found an interest in cooking while on the naval ship, USS Tombigbee. Throughout the years, many were treated to his special meals including chicken cacciatore, beef stew, and breaded chicken cutlets, to name a few. He also perfected the carving and presentation of the Thanksgiving turkey. Wanting the best for his family, he was always available to lend a listening ear and help out in any way he could. Doug is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Ruth Ann; cherished children Dayna (Mark), Bryan (Cher), and Kimberlee (Andrew), grandchildren Devin, Oliver, Kennedy, Cole, and Rhys; great grandson Noah; his brother, Norman (Gen); and will be missed by his 4-legged companion, Riley. Doug’s visitation and funeral service will be private for his immediate family from the Vander Plaat Funeral Home, (vpfh.com), Wyckoff.
