Dr. Werner Kofler

Dr. Werner Kofler, age 89, of Midland Park, NJ, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 16, 2025.

Born in Germany in 1936, Werner lived a life defined by curiosity, resilience, and deep devotion to his family. He was predeceased by Maggie Kofler, his parents, Robert and Helen Kofler and his brother, Rolf Kofler.

Werner’s journey took him across borders and cultures—residing in Germany, Belgium, England, Canada, and Wyckoff, NJ before settling in Midland Park, NJ, where he spent the last 30 years of his life. He is survived by his son, Carl Kofler of Wyckoff, his daughter, Paula Miniotis, son-in-law, George Miniotis of Midland Park, and seven cherished grandchildren who lovingly called him “Opa.”

Professionally, Werner dedicated his career to textile sales, worked for several international companies that allowed him to travel the globe and connect with people from all walks of life. His gift for languages was remarkable—he spoke many fluently—but he was always recognized by his unmistakable German accent, which became a signature part of his charm.

At an age when most slow down, Werner dove into academia, earning advanced degrees that reflected his lifelong thirst for knowledge. He received his Master’s in Theology and his Doctorate in Literature from Drew University, proving that learning was not just a phase of life, but a way of being.

Werner found joy in the simple pleasures—swimming in the pool, tending to his lawn, biking with friends and family or sitting outside with his pipe, quietly savoring the weather. But above all, he treasured time with his children and grandchildren, watching them grow and thrive. He was immensely proud of their accomplishments and the families they built.

Werner’s love, wisdom, and quiet strength will be deeply missed. His legacy lives on in the hearts of those who knew him and loved him.

The family will have a Celebration of Opa’s Life at 12pm on Friday August 22, 2025, at The Brick House, 179 Godwin Avenue, Wyckoff, NJ.
