Ed Pruim

Edward “Ed” Pruim passed away peacefully on June 4, 2026, at the age of 67.

Ed was raised in Midland Park and Wyckoff, and remained deeply rooted in the community throughout his life. He attended Eastern Christian Schools, where he formed lifelong friendships that he cherished for decades. Wyckoff was always home to Ed, a place where he built his life, raised his family, and gave so much of himself to others.

Ed began working at a young age in his family’s laundry business in Hawthorne, where he developed the strong work ethic that would define him throughout his life. He later became an owner and partner of Kunis Piano Moving, a role that brought him across the region and beyond. Through his work, he helped place pianos in renowned music halls, schools, and countless homes—quietly contributing to moments of joy and artistry for others. After retiring from the piano business, Ed continued working at Yudin’s Appliances in Midland Park, where he formed many lasting friendships.

In 1983, Ed joined the Wyckoff Fire Department as a member of Sicomac Community Engine Company 3. Over 43 years of dedicated service, he served as Deputy Chief and later as President and Treasurer of Company 3. He was immensely proud of his service, and even more so when all three of his children followed in his footsteps to become firefighters.

Ed loved the outdoors and found great peace in hunting and fishing. He was a proud and longtime member of Mongaup Game Preserve in New York, where he spent countless hours surrounded by nature, often in the company of family and close friends.

Known for his larger-than-life presence, Ed earned the nickname “Big Ed,” not only for his stature but for his personality. He was devoted to service, had a great sense of humor, and had a way of making people feel comfortable and welcome. Whether sharing a story, lending a hand, or simply enjoying the company of others, Ed left a lasting impression on everyone he met.

Above all else, Ed’s greatest pride and joy was his family. He is survived by his beloved wife, Michelle; his children, E.J. and his wife Roxie, Heather, and Luke; his mother, Mae; and his siblings, Sue, Doug and his wife Barbara, and Wendy. He was also a cherished uncle, brother-in-law, and friend to a large extended family and community who will deeply feel his absence.

Ed was grateful for the opportunity to spend time with so many family members and friends in his final days. Even then, his humor and warmth brought smiles to those around him, including the staff at Hackensack University Medical Center. He faced each day with resilience, strength, and grace.

He will be remembered for his generosity, helpfulness, his laughter, and the deep love he had for his family and friends. Ed will be profoundly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Memorial Contributions in Ed's Memory may be given to the John Theurer Cancer Center or Sicomac Community Engine Co #3.
