Obituary

Edward Mathias Leber, was born on November 26, 1936, in Passaic, New Jersey, to the late Bertha and Mathias Leber. He passed away peacefully on September 6, 2023, surrounded by the love of his family. He was 86 years old.  Edward leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and cherished memories. He was the beloved husband of Karen (née Kauker) Leber, for over 58 years, his partner in life’s journey. Together, they shared countless joys and weathered life’s challenges.  A devoted father, Edward is survived by his loving daughters, Lauren Fodi and her husband Joseph, and Kathleen Leber. His guidance, wisdom, and unwavering support were a source of strength and inspiration to them throughout their lives.  Edward’s legacy continues through his grandsons, Joseph LaBarck and his fiancé Kristy, Michael LaBarck and his fiancé Nicole, Alexander Fodi and his wife Ciara, and Cortland Fodi and his fiancé Priscilla. He also leaves behind his beloved four-legged companion, Mac.

Edward was a wealth of life lessons, values, and traditions that will be passed down through the generations.  He was a true hero in every sense of the word. He spent over 50 years of his life serving as a North Haledon Volunteer firefighter and was an ex-chief at Company #1. In addition to his service in the fire department, Edward also proudly served his country in the United States Army. His dedication to defending our nation was a testament to his character and love for his country.

Edward Leber’s presence in our lives was a beacon of warmth and kindness. His smile could light up a room, and his sense of humor was infectious. He had a heart full of love, always ready to lend a helping hand to those in need. Though he may no longer be with us in person, his memory will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him. Edward will be forever missed, but the love and the memories we shared with him will be a source of comfort in our grief.

The Leber family will receive friends on Sunday, September 10, 2023, from 3:00-7:00 PM at the Vander Plaat Funeral Home, 257 Godwin Avenue, Wyckoff. Funeral Mass will be held Monday, September 11, 2023 at 11AM at St. Elizabeth’s RC Church, 700 Wyckoff Avenue, Wyckoff, NJ.
