Eileen Katherine Heffernan passed away peacefully on January 7th, 2026, at the age of 98. Born in 1927 to Kenneth and Anna Hammond in the Bronx, NY, Eileen went on to meet the love of her life, Frank Heffernan, with whom she shared almost 70 joyful years of marriage. The two settled in New Jersey, where they raised six children to whom Eileen wholeheartedly dedicated herself. Outside of her family, Eileen was deeply committed to her faith and devoted much of her time to charitable work within her church. She served as a Eucharistic minister, bringing comfort to hospital patients by distributing communion.
In 1979, Eileen welcomed her first grandchild, Kevin Heffernan Jr., marking the beginning of a new chapter in her life. She would go on to have 18 more grandchildren and commit herself to being the best and most present grandmother ever by attending as many Halloween parades in one day as possible and making each grandchild feel as though they were the only one. There was never a dull moment for Eileen, who was then blessed to watch her family continue to grow by 18 great grandchildren. While she called her husband, family, and faith her “greatest gifts in life”, she certainly had room in her heart for a few other favorites, including orange jellies, pizza, and chardonnay with copious amounts of ice (topped off with a smidge of hair spray!)
Eileen leaves behind her 6 beloved children and their spouses, Brian and Barbara Heffernan, Kevin and Kathleen Heffernan, Thomas and Linda Heffernan, Patti and Kevin Cleary, Kathleen and Joe Feudi, and Barbara Heffernan and David Moak. She will always hold a special place in the hearts of her 19 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. Eileen will forever be remembered for the gifts she gave us, including her amazing sense of style and humor, extraordinary kindness, unwavering faith, and love of life.
The Heffernan Family will receive friends on Saturday, January 17, 2026, from 2:00 -3:00 PM followed by a Memorial Mass at 3:00 PM at St. Elizabeth’s RC Church, 700 Wyckoff Avenue, Wyckoff, NJ.
