Emma Lou Sayers, age 96 of Ho-Ho-Kus, died peacefully on Wednesday, March 17, 2021. Emma Lou was born in Washington, D.C. and had been a resident of Ho-Ho-Kus since 1960. Emma Lou and her husband, Richard, who predeceased her in 2003 raised six beautiful children. Her greatest enjoyment in life was spent with her husband and raising their children. She was always heavily involved in her children’s activities from being a Cub Scout den mother for two sons to serving as Girl Scout leader for all four daughters. An avid bridge player, she taught the game to young and old for over seventy years. In her later years she served the Valley Hospital Auxiliary and Women’s Club of Ho-Ho-Kus. She loved the feel of the sand between her toes and bobbing around in the ocean, spending summers with family and friends at their home in Normandy Beach on the Jersey shore. She is survived by her devoted children; Richard M. Sayers, Jr. and his wife, Dorothy, William S. Sayers and his wife, Karen, Mary M. Vaughan and her husband, Douglas, Virginia A. Newman and her husband, Peter, Emma L. Loftus and her husband Craig and Kathleen E. Raschdorf and her husband, Richard. Emma Lou is also survived by 12 grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
