EUGENE EMMETT MCINERNEY, JENSEN BEACH, FL Gene McInerney passed away October 12, 2024, in Jensen Beach, FL at the age of 86. He was born to the late Frank and Marion McInerney on April 3, 1938, in Jersey City, NJ, he was the fourth of five children. After graduating from high school, Gene served in the United States Army from 1956-1958, and subsequent to his discharge from the Army attended night school at St. Peter’s College graduating in 1965 with a BS, Accounting, while starting a career on Wall Street. He married Judith McInerney (nee Haughey, pre-deceased), also of Jersey City, in 1964. They resided in North Bergen, Glen Rock, and Spring Lake Heights, NJ before relocating to Jensen Beach in 2009. Gene had a successful career in fixed income trading working at firms including CJ Devine & Co., Dean Witter, and Deutsche Bank. Gene’s reputation for honesty and integrity on Wall Street was the hallmark of his career.
Gene was a devoted husband and father of five children. He was an avid cook, lover of music, and developed faith-based communities everywhere he went. He and his wife Judy were residents of Glen Rock for over 35 years. While residing there, Gene was a pillar in both the local community and at the Roman Catholic Parish of St. Catharine. While a parishioner at St. Catharine, Gene was involved in every facet of parish life, in particular, as a council member, lector, and March for Life coordinator. Beginning in the 1970s, along with his wife, Gene worked tirelessly to establish the first Natural Family Planning training program for married couples in the Newark Archdiocese, a legacy that continues to this day. Gene also served as a member of the Glen Rock Town Council. Gene is survived by five children: Christopher McInerney of Hawthorne, NJ; Timothy McInerney of Stuart, FL; Kerri Amoruso of Ridgewood, NJ; Matthew McInerney of Skillman, NJ; and Daniel McInerney of Glen Rock, NJ. He is also survived by twenty-one grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and the blessing of many extended family and friends. In addition, the family is eternally grateful for the loving care Ella Whippy provided to both Gene and Judy. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to Several Sources Shelters located in Ramsey, NJ - www.severalsources.org. A viewing will be held Thursday, October 17, 2024, 3:00 - 7:00 p.m. at Vander Plaat Funeral Home, 257 Godwin Avenue, Wyckoff, NJ, 201-891-3400. A funeral mass will be held Friday, October 18, 2024, 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Roman Catholic Church, 1 Passaic Street, Ridgewood, NJ. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in North Arlington, NJ.
