Flora Adams, 93, of Mahwah, passed away Monday, September 6, 2021. She was born in New York City to parents Constantine (Gus) and Anna.
The world has lost another one of the nicest, sweetest, kindest, caring, generous, forgiving, loving, considerate person that lived on this earth. She is now at peace and resting, with no pain nor sorrow nor suffering, but life everlasting.
She was a wonderful and attentive daughter, a devoted and loving wife, an affectionate and caring mother, and an adoring and fond grandmother.
Flora graduated from Washington Irving H.S. and after a short period at City College, she embarked on her career as a Bookkeeper, Full Charge. She was a traditional, old time, manual bookkeeper who knew her assets/debits, journal entries, etc. inside out.
She was employed with a number of companies in New York City and after marriage, when the children came along, she took her leave to stay home and bring up the children in a traditional, no nonsense, fair and square manner. She instilled in them values that remain today and that have passed down to the grandchildren. When her two boys reached their teen years, she returned to her joy of bookkeeping and through her last year, finally retired from Village Green Insurance. Her challenge, which she looked forward to doing, was to tackle and straighten out a set of books that were in complete disarray. And on a number of occasions, she was able to show and prove to her superiors and banks that her numbers were correct.
Flora was a consummate homemaker, a gracious hostess, planning and having get-togethers for yearly birthdays, Easters, Thanksgivings, Christmases, etc. She enjoyed cooking and baking and always tweaked the recipe until she was satisfied with the taste. She also loved vacationing to the traditional spots and National Parks as well as the many trips and cruises with her children and grandchildren. She especially enjoyed the anniversary visits to Montauk, NY where she experienced the many phases of the ocean from calm to stormy seas.
Flora was an accomplished pianist and enjoyed playing for herself and others. She followed both popular and classical music and frequented the opera with a many dear friends over a number of years. She was a parishioner of St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church in Wyckoff and was a member of the Philoptochos Society as well as a member of the Knitting Club, crocheting baby hats, blankets, etc. for donation to St. Josephs Hospital.
Flora leaves behind her beloved husband of 66 years, Nicholas, her cherished sons, Nicholas Dean (Jeanmarie), James John (Irena), her loving grandchildren Ryan, Nicole, Karly (Jarett), Lauren, Cole, and dear nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by her sister Lillian and brother Harry and many in-laws.
