Frances Dykhouse Obituary

Frances Dykhouse (nee Van Der Plaats) ,90, of North Haledon, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on November 19, 2024.

Born in Prospect Park, three months earlier than expected, she spent her first few weeks sleeping in her father’s boot box. This was something she often spoke of, using it as a testimony of God’s Love and plan for her.

She was a graduate of the first class of Licensed Practical Nurses from Passaic County Technical College and was so proud of being a nurse. For her, once a nurse, always a nurse.

She agreed to go on a blind date and met the man who became the love of her life, Jacob (Jack) Dykhouse. They were married a year later and lived in Paterson and Prospect Park before finally moving to Midland Park, where they spent the next 43 years. They had a daughter Linda (Barry) Krantz, now of Pompton Lakes, and a son Jacob (Carol Stelpstra) III, now in Wanaque. A member of the Christian Reformed Church of Midland Park, Mom taught Sunday School for many years, was a Stephen Minister, and a member of the choir. She started her nursing career at the Christian Healthcare Center in Wyckoff and then worked at the Holland Christian Home in North Haledon for over 30 years. Upon retiring, she took a part time job with the Borough of Midland Park as a crossing guard and later worked in the office as a file clerk and planting flowers.

Taking care of her family was Mom’s main enjoyment: she loved buying clothes for everyone and cooking and baking and gardening. When they moved to Wanaque Reserve in 2006, it was to be closer to their family. After Dad passed in 2014, she moved to The Holland Christian Home (now the Windmere) in North Haledon, where she had many friends and was always looking to help wherever she could.

Predeceased by her three brothers and one sister, she is survived by one sister, Florence Koert, of Florida, three sisters-in-law, her two children and their spouses, four grandchildren Jason, Johnathon, Stephanie and Steven, and many nieces and nephews. Her kindness, good nature and helpfulness as well as her faithful service to the Lord will be sorely missed by many.

We miss you, Mom and we’ll be together again soon!
