It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved brother, Frank T. McKenna Jr., 72, on Saturday, March 14, 2026, at Villa Marie Claire, Saddle River, NJ.
Frank was born in the Bronx, New York, and spent his early childhood in City Island, NY, before his family moved to Waldwick, NJ, in 1954 - a place that would remain his cherished hometown. Frank later moved to Mahwah, NJ, where he spent his remaining years.
Starting his career at the NY Telephone Co., Frank worked in programming in various positions until retiring from Verizon. In retirement, he enjoyed his lifelong love of sports, both playing and watching, and was a devoted fan of the New York Yankees and the New York Giants. He had a strong appreciation for music and animals. Above all else, he treasured his family and friends, many of whom were lifelong friends. Frank will be remembered for his generosity, loyalty, and quick‑witted humor, always ready with a speedy comeback.
Frank is survived by his beloved and devoted longtime partner, Cathy Becker‑Brooks; his loving step‑daughters and grandchildren; his beloved sisters, Kathleen (Les), Marianne (Mark), and Jeanne (Chris); and many treasured nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his beloved parents, Frank T. McKenna Sr. and Mary G. Fluhr.
Visitation will be held Thursday, March 19, from 6:00–8:00pm at VanderPlaat Funeral Home in Wyckoff, NJ. A private interment for close family will be held on Friday. Family and friends are warmly invited to gather for an Irish repass at The Brick House in Wyckoff, NJ, on Friday, March 20, from 1:00-4:00pm. Guests are encouraged to bring photos or share stories in remembrance of Frank.
In remembrance of Frank’s life and love, the family asks that charitable donations be made to the Mahwah Ambulance Corps or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
