We are heartbroken to announce the death of our father, Frederick Dennis Hoff, formerly of Wyckoff, New Jersey. He passed away peacefully at the age of 88 on September 10th, 2022, in Palm Beach Gardens, FL.
Fred was predeceased by his beloved wife Verne Simone Hoff, and his parents Frederick and Helen Hoff. Fred is survived by his children, Joanne Hoff Naylor of Palm Beach Gardens, FL, Susan Hoff Tuohy of Mantoloking, NJ and Frederick Hoff Jr. of Wellesley, MA and his 5 grandchildren, Shannon and PJ Tuohy, Ryan, Emily and Caroline Hoff.
Fred was born on February 22,1934 in Paterson, NJ. His family moved to Hawthorne, NJ then Wyckoff, NJ where he spent most of his life. Fred attended Lafayette College was a member of Phi Kappa Psi fraternity and graduated in 1956. He married the love of his life, Verne Renee Simone in 1959, and raised their children in Wyckoff. For Fred, family was the most important part of his life. Fred spent his entire business career at Celanese Chemical Corporation as a National Account Manager. He also served as a President of Racemics, a noted chemical industry organization.
Fred was a past member of the Ridgewood Country Club and the Palm Beach Yacht Club. He was a long-time member of Grace United Methodist Church in Wyckoff and more recently Franklin Lakes United Methodist Church. He was active in the Order of Saint John of Jerusalem Knights Hospitaller, as a Malta Knight of Justice, New York Commandery, The America’s Priory. The Order is an international organization dedicated to helping the sick and poor. Fred was devoted to numerous charitable causes including CUMAC in Paterson, NJ.
His family paid tribute to him by saying “He was generous, charismatic, and opened up his heart and home to all. He was always one of classiest and best dressed people you would meet. Fred always said that the path to success was to treat everyone from the janitor to the President of the company the same.” He will be missed greatly by family, friends and all who knew him.
Visitation will be held in Wyckoff, NJ at Vander Plaat Funeral Home 247 Godwin Ave, Wyckoff, NJ on Thursday, September 22 from 2PM - 4PM and 6PM - 8PM.
A private funeral service has been requested by his family.
