Ginny Veenstra Obituary

Ginny Veenstra (nee De Jong) a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and cherished friend went to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, January 13, 2026. Born in Dumont, Ginny was a lifelong resident of Midland Park before moving to Blakeslee, PA in 2007. Ginny attended Eastern Christian Schools and graduated from ECHS in 1970. She dedicated more than 20 years of her professional life as a trusted employee and medical receptionist to Dr. Patricia Hicks in HoHoKus, where she was known for her loyalty, compassion, and strong work ethic before her retirement in 2007.

Ginny’s commitment to service extended far beyond her career. She was an active member of the Midland Park Volunteer Ambulance Corps for over 25 years, giving selflessly of her time and energy to help others in their moments of greatest need. Her leadership and dedication were evident during her multiple terms as Captain, a role in which she served with pride, integrity, and deep care for both her fellow volunteers and the community.

Some of the things that Ginny enjoyed outside of work and ambulance corps were daily walks throughout the streets of Midland Park and Blakeslee. She and Ken always had their annual challenge of who had the best tan. Whether it was the beaches of New Jersey or Florida, or just the back yard, they enjoyed their sunbathing. They started their adventures in camping with a little popup tent camper when the kids were young. In more recent years they traveled the highways in their Country Coach Motor Coach. They were members of the Country Coach Motorcoach Club and met many new friends and acquaintances. Ginny was a member of the Faith Reformed Church in Midland Park and the Blakeslee Methodist Church in Blakeslee, PA.

Above all, Ginny treasured her family. She is survived by her loving husband of 56 years, Ken; daughter Tracy and her husband Albert Van Houten and her son Kevin and his wife Carolyn. Those that brought her immense joy were her grandchildren, Troy and Travis Van Houten and Danny, Hailey and Brady Veenstra and not to be forgotten, her great granddaughter Riley Van Houten. Ginny’s sister and brothers that survive her are Elaine and her husband Craig Booth, Bob De Jong and his wife Leslie, Roger De Jong and his wife Brenda and her sister-in-law Cynthia (De Jong) Flaming. She also leaves many nieces and nephews. Ginny was pre-deceased by her brother Rick De Jong in 2004 and Ron De Jong in 2018.

The Veenstra family will receive friends on Sunday, Jan.18, 2:00 until 4:30 PM at the Vander Plaat Funeral Home, 257 Godwin Avenue, Wyckoff, NJ, followed by an Ambulance Corps service at 4:30 PM. Funeral services will be held Monday, Jan.19, 10:00 AM at the funeral home. Interment will follow in the Laurel Grove Memorial Park in Totowa.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Ginny’s name may be made to the Midland Park Volunteer Ambulance Corps, 471 Godwin Avenue, Midland Park, NJ 07432 or St. Luke’s Hospice c/o Development Office, 801 Ostrum Street, Bethlehem, PA 18015.
