John Longo of Mahwah, New Jersey, formerly of Scarsdale, New York and beloved husband of Rose Longo, passed away peacefully on March 2, 2025 surrounded by his loving family.
He was born in San Biase, in the Calabria province of Italy, to Alfonso and Emilia Longo. He received his primary education in Italy and spent his formative years in Buenos Aires, Argentina. His love for fashion began as a young boy in Italy and it was in Buenos Aires where he earned his degree in design from the Academia “Petronio”. While in Buenos Aires, he worked for a number of top men’s fashion designers. He later immigrated to New York where he continued to work in the garment industry for a prominent fashion house.
John realized the American dream in New York: he founded his own business specializing in custom men’s clothing as well as a curated selection of men’s apparel. With the help of his wife Rose, the business flourished and expanded to include women’s designer wear. What set John apart was his personal touch, which his clients deeply valued. He was a versatile conversationalist; kind, unassuming, compassionate and generous. His client list included the city’s most prominent business professionals, actors and sports figures. He was particularly proud of his relationship with the New York Yankees.
John enjoyed traveling and was an avid tennis player, car enthusiast, musician and wine maker. He enjoyed spending time in his home in Southampton, New York, entertaining family and friends and spending lazy days at the beach.
Nothing made John happier than spending time with his family. This devoted family man is survived by his loving wife Rose, his beloved children Marisa Lambert (Tom), Sandra Durante (John), Stefanie Waller (Elliott) and Jennifer Moodie (Jason). He was predeceased by his son Steven. He will be sorely missed by his adoring grandchildren Olivia and Christopher Lambert, Matthew, Sofia and John Durante, Ava and Cameron Waller and Savannah and Eve Moodie. He is also survived by his brother Dante Longo (Anna) and his sister Cesira Garritano as well as his sister-in-law Antoinette Huget (John) and brother-in-law Joe Ansanelli (Rose), many nieces and nephews, cousins and friends too numerous to count.
Friends may greet his family on Thursday, March 6th from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Vander Plaat Funeral Home, 257 Godwin Avenue, Wyckoff, New Jersey. A mass of Christian burial will take place on Friday, March 7th at 11:15 a.m. at Church of the Presentation, 271 W. Saddle River Road, Upper Saddle River, New Jersey. Interment will follow at Ferncliff Cemetery, 280 Secor Road, Hartsdale, New York.
