Harry Place, 93, of Ridgewood, NJ passed away peacefully at home on November 11, 2023. Harry is survived by his wife Jean, his three children: Doug and wife Jeannette, Richard and wife Debra, and Ellen and husband Matt Pearsall, and 6 grandchildren: Natalie, Michael, Jessica, Danielle, Emma, and Logan.
Harry and Jean were married for 67 years. Harry was a devoted husband, father, and friend to many. Born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, Harry moved to Ridgewood in 1965 where he spent the last 50 years raising his family and serving the community. Harry actively volunteered with several local organizations, including Hobbyists Unlimited, Share House, Liberty Science Museum, and the YMCA. He also helped inspire local aspiring teen scientists through Super Science Saturdays. He was a licensed Amateur Radio Operator (KA2KTX), and in his free time enjoyed repairing electronics and appliances for friends and neighbors and playing and recording organ music.
He was an honors graduate of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, where he received both his Bachelor of Science and Master's degree in Electrical Engineering. Harry spent his 43-year engineering career with ITT as a Senior Systems Specialist, receiving ten patents in a variety of disciplines. He also worked as a consulting engineer to a variety of manufacturing organizations.
The family will be having visitation Friday November 17, 2023, 1pm to 5pm at Vander Plaat Funeral Home, 257 Godwin Avenue, Wyckoff, NJ 07481. A Funeral Service will be held Saturday, November 18, 2023, at 11:00am at St. Elizabeth’s Episcopal Church, 169 Fairmount Road, Ridgewood, NJ 07450.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that remembrances be made in the form of contributions to Share Inc., 104 Cottage Place, Ridgewood, NJ 07450.
