Helen R. Slider, 80, of Wayne fell asleep in the Lord on January 10, 2022.
Known fondly as “Nan”, Helen is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, George; her devoted children Stephanie (Steve), George (Jessica), and Katherine (John); her grandchildren, Bill (Ashley), Nicholas, Matthew (Corie), Kayla (Kyle), Krystyna, Alexis, Brianna, Christian, Lyndsay, and Emily; and her great grandchildren, Jack, Grant, Ezra, Rhea, and Iris. Nan is also survived by her brother, Terry, and many extended, loving family members, cousins, nieces, and nephews. She is predeceased by her brothers Nicholas and Angelo. Her family was her world. Her soft smile and welcoming, loving embrace will be missed by everyone.
Helen was born on February 10, 1941, in Stamford, CT to Arthur and Katherine Rotas. A second generation American, she was raised in a large, energetic Greek family and her exuberant love of family radiated throughout her life. Helen was swept away by the love of her life, George C. Slider, Jr., and they were married on June 25, 1961, at the Church of the Archangels in Stamford, CT. Helen and George raised three children, eventually settling in Wayne, NJ, where their family continued to grow. Their home quickly became where everyone gathered. From Christmas Eve to Easter, the roar of laughter, stories from years past, and music from her “best favorites” reverberated late into each evening. However, nothing brought more joy to her face than when one of her grandchildren knocked on the door for a surprise visit. Without a doubt, Nan’s proudest moments were celebrating the many accomplishments of her children and grandchildren.
The visitation for Helen will be on Friday, January 14, 2022, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Vander Plaat Funeral Home, www.vpfh.com, 257 Godwin Avenue, Wyckoff, NJ. Trisagion Service will be at 7:00 pm following the visitation. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 15, at 10:00 am at Saint Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, 467 Grandview Avenue, Wyckoff, NJ. Immediately following her funeral service, Helen will be laid to rest at George Washington Memorial Park in Paramus, NJ. May her memory be eternal.
