Helena B. (Uelen) Dykstra

Helena B. Dykstra (nee Uelen) age 90 of North Haledon, died peacefully surrounded by her family on Monday, September 12, 2022. Helena was born in Paterson, raised in Hawthorne and a longtime resident of North Haledon.

Helena was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and nothing brought her more joy than her family. She enjoyed gardening and reading, but mostly she enjoyed cleaning. She was a member of the Faith Community Christian Reformed Church in Wyckoff where she sang in the church choir. 

Surviving are her devoted children, Helena and her husband Gary Veurink, William Dykstra, Jr. and his wife Melissa, Linda and her husband Doug VerHill and Robert Dykstra and his wife Laura. Helena was the proud grandmother of 14 grandchildren, Crystal (Steven), Grant (Carmen), Julie (Andrew), Matthew (Holly), Rob (Gabrielle), Natalie (Lucas), Stacey (Jeff), Amy (Brad), Lee (Kelli), Ryan (Samantha), Brad, Shannon, Mark and Kyle and 28 great grandchildren. She was pre-deceased by her husband William Dykstra in 2011, her brother William Uelen in 2016 and her sister Gertrude Kraengel in 1997.

The Dykstra family will receive friends on Sunday, September 18, 3:00 until 6:00 PM at the Vander Plaat Funeral Home, 257 Godwin Avenue, Wyckoff. Funeral services will be held Monday, September 19, 10:30 AM at the funeral home followed by interment in the Wyckoff Reformed Church Cemetery.
