Howard “Jake” Jacobsen, from Fort Myers, Florida, and formerly of Wyckoff, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on April 24, at age 92, to join his wife of 70 years, Alberta, in heaven on her birthday the next day. Jake was born September 2, 1933, in Ramsey, New Jersey, to Howard and Lillian Jacobsen. He is survived by his children James Jacobsen (Lori), of Islamorada, Florida; Michael Jacobsen (Deborah), of Sea Bright, New Jersey; and his daughter-in-law, Melissa Jacobsen, of Essex, Connecticut. He was predeceased by his wife, Alberta Jacobsen; his son, Glenn Jacobsen, of Essex, Connecticut; his sisters, Ruth Puccia and Lillian Mae Jacobsen, both of Ramsey, New Jersey; and daughter-in-law Brenda Jacobsen, of Oakland, New Jersey. Jake worked for more than 30 years as a lineman and foreman with Orange and Rockland Utilities and was also a true tree man, having owned and operated Jacobsen Tree Service for many years up until the day his children were done with college. Jake, who was a long-time member of the Tall Cedars of Lebanon, loved traveling in his motorhome with his friends all over the country, having breakfast with his ROMEO buddies in Florida, watching the plants grow wherever he lived and driving big trucks for Jacobsen Landscape and Design. His favorite time of year was spending three days with his family camping in Boonville, New York, for the annual New York State Woodsmen’s Field Days. His legacy lives on through his seven grandchildren, Kevin, Keith, Colleen, Christopher, Rachel, Trey and Trevor, and eight great-grandchildren, Morgan, Brennan, Gavin, Arlo, Eliza Grace, Christalie, Julian and Janiece.
A memorial service will be scheduled for friends and family this summer.
