Irene Reed

Irene Reed passed away on July 17, 2021 after just celebrating her 100th birthday.  She was surrounded by friends and family at Mill Gardens, where she was a resident for two and a half years.   Her family decided to return to Poland where she was raised along with her older brother Raymond and her younger brother Aldi.  Our beloved mother is survived by her son David Reed, daughter Janette Schweiker Frisco and her husband Ken Frisco.  As a young woman, she returned to America, married Arden Reed and raised her children Janette and David.  Her envious independence was greatly admired.  When her children were young, Irene went to nursing school at Cornell University in Ithaca, NY.  Upon graduating at the top of her class, she moved with her family to Poughkeepsie, NY to accept her first nursing assignment.  Several years later, she moved to Pearl River after being offered a leadership position at Rockland State Hospital in the infirmary.  Her passionate care, gentle personality and love for others shined through and were appreciated by her colleagues.  At age 70, Irene moved to Ramsey, NJ to be near her daughter.

Irene was a generous supporter of charities and the kind treatment of animals.  She always shared her home with rescue cats purring by her side.  With a love for animals, decorating, gardening, baking, the striving for independence continued into her later years.  She developed a love for the piano and was a talented concert pianist throughout her whole life.  Irene’s talent, passion, and emotion while playing her favorite piano pieces by Mozart, Schubert, Chopin and Beethoven, was enjoyed by all.  She will always be a shining light in our eyes and remain in our hearts.

The family will receive friends from 9:00 to 10:45am on Wednesday at the Vander Plaat Funeral Home, www.vpfh.com, 257 Godwin Ave. Wyckoff, NJ. 

Funeral Service will be held at 10:45am on Wednesday, at the Vander Plaat Funeral Home.  Interment will follow at the Maryrest Cemetery in Mahwah.
