John W. “Jack” Myer, 84 of Wantage and formerly of Wyckoff, died peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Friday, November 10, 2023. Born in Paterson, Jack lived in Wyckoff most of his life before moving to Wantage in 1988. Jack was the superintendent of Northwest Bergen Utility Authority until he retired in 2008. He also taught water and wastewater management at Bergen County Technical School until he was 76 years old.
Jack was a member of the Wyckoff Fire Department serving as chief of department from 1982 through 1985 and he was also a member of the Wyckoff Masonic Lodge #287 F&AM.
His greatest enjoyments were retiring in the Catskill Mountains, his love of gardening, the love for his dogs and most of all spending time with his grandchildren.
Jack is survived by his loving wife Joan, his sons John and his wife Brenda, and Todd and his wife Kate, his grandchildren: Brandon, Michelle and her husband Greg, Andrea, Lauren, Patrick and his wife Jillian, Tyler and his wife Tatiana, Allie and her husband Doug, and 6 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Barbara and her husband Ron Simmons and his sister Catherine Myer and her son Jason.
Jack was predeceased by his son, Eugene, and 3 grandsons, Zachary, Jon Paul and Shane.
The Myer family will receive friends and family from 4:00 to 7:00 pm on Tuesday, November 14, 2023 at the Vander Plaat Funeral Home, 257 Godwin Avenue, Wyckoff. Funeral services will be held 11:00am on Wednesday, November 15 at the Wyckoff Reformed Church, 580 Wyckoff Ave., Wyckoff, NJ. Interment will follow in the Wyckoff Reformed Church Cemetery.
