James Joseph Marciano, known as Jim to all, passed away peacefully at his home on October 22, 2024. He was born on January 8, 1925 in Hoboken, New Jersey to Lillian Mullady and Joseph Marciano. He is predeceased by his younger brother Robert.
He proudly served in the United States Marine Corps from April 13,1943 to August 28,1945 during WW2 in the Pacific theater, notably participating in the Battle of Okinawa. He married the love of his life Assunta (Sue) LaPorta on August 15, 1953 and they enjoyed 71 years of marriage. He is the loving dad to three children, James (Maria), Mark (Laurie) and Tricia (Joe) and proud grandfather to five, Matthew, Joshua, Alex (Dave), Andrew and Laura as well as great-grandfather to Scottie.
With work being one of his hobbies, he happily held many jobs throughout his life often working more than one at a time. For 20 years he worked as a letter carrier for the United States Post Office - first in New Hyde Park, NY and then in Ho-Ho-Kus, NJ. Upon retirement, he was employed by the Ramsey Auto Group in Ramsey, NJ for 25 years.
Jim was a good friend and a family man who lived a full life. He was an avid sports fan. He enjoyed playing softball as well as coaching and even umpiring local sports. He spent much of his free time watching professional sports. In particular, he had a fondness for baseball, football and golf. He also loved to watch the classic black and white movies with one of his favorites being The Best Years of Our Lives.
Jim was well loved and will be greatly missed. His life was a blessing. The family will honor him with a Celebration of Life at the Glen Rock Inn, 222 Rock Road, Glen Rock, NJ on Sunday, 11/3/24 from 1:00-4:00 PM. Please join them to remember, laugh and celebrate.
