Janice Doot Obituary

On October 14, 2020, Janice Lynn Doot (nee Kesse) of Fair Lawn passed away peacefully surrounded by family. She was 67 years old. She had been fighting multiple bouts of cancer since the fall of 2015. In the spring of 2020, she contracted Covid-19 while at a rehab facility recovering from a fall and suffered multiple side effects which left her physically compromised. In September, she returned to her family’s home where she spent her final days enjoying the company and love of her family and friends watching television together and reading books with her two-year-old granddaughter Lucy.

Jan was born in Paterson, NJ and was a graduate of Fair Lawn High School.  She was a loving wife, mother, sister, aunt, and grandma.  She is survived by her husband of 45 years, Frederick Doot Sr., her son Frederick F. Doot II of Claryville, N.Y., daughter Laura D. Fish (husband Daniel) of Allentown, P.A., step-daughter Darlene Balga (husband Joe) of Lawrenceville, G.A., three grandchildren, Lucille Lynn, Aaron Michael, and Katheryn Elina, many nieces and nephews, and her sister Carolyn Prelich (husband Jack).  She was predeceased by her parents, Charles and Helen Kesse.

Jan worked as a crossing guard for the Glen Rock Police Dept. for 23 years. She loved her relationship with all the families of children she crossed, sharing smiles and watching them grow year by year.

Jan loved camping in the Catskills. She spent her summer days upstate in an inner-tube either on the Delaware River or Willowemoc Creek floating up and down the shorelines looking for fish and absorbing the tranquility of nature. In the evenings, she could be found either meandering the mountains roads counting deer and enjoying the scenery, or at her camper listening the New York Mets and playing games with her family. Jan also loved spending time in Wildwood at the Jersey Shore. She also enjoyed adult coloring books, crossword puzzles, watching old television shows, and attending baseball games with her family.
