Jean Prince Alvarez Sheldon

Jean Prince Alvarez Sheldon, 91, of Waldwick, formerly of Walton, NY, passed away on Tuesday, October 21, 2025.  

Born in Walton, NY, Jean began her career in Albany, where she worked in a state office building and met her first husband, Manuel Alvarez, Jr. Together, they settled in Waldwick, where Jean lovingly raised their six children. While nurturing her growing family, she also worked at a small local pharmacy in Ridgewood and later as an EKG technician at Valley Hospital.

Jean remarried Lawrence Sheldon, and together they shared many happy years in Sun Lakes, AZ, and Hyde Park, NY, before returning to Waldwick three years ago.

Jean’s life was centered around faith, family, and kindness. She will be remembered for her warmth, quiet strength, and devotion to her children and grandchildren, who brought her immense pride and joy.

Jean is survived by her children: David (Patricia), Susan (Ken) Quintilian, Michael, Thomas (Lindsey), Joseph (Erica), and Steven (Wendy) 13 loving grandchildren: Stephanie, David Jr., Brian, Mary Kate, Anthony, Michael Jr., Nicholas (Veronica), Thomas Jr., Joseph (Courtney), Patrick (Mia), Paige, Steven, and Madison, and 3 great grandchildren: Hiliana, Selena and Violet and one more on the way.  She is also survived by her brother Father Leo Prince and her former daughters-in-law: Catherine, Carla, and Donna.    Jean was predeceased by her husband Lawrence Sheldon, her first husband Manuel Alvarez, Jr., her brothers Henry and Richard and her grandson Kevin.   

Visiting hours are 4:00 to 8:00pm on Friday at the Vander Plaat Funeral Home, www.vpfh.com, 257 Godwin Ave., Wyckoff, NJ  07481.  Funeral mass is 10:00am Saturday at St. Elizabeth’s RC Church, 700 Wyckoff Ave., Wyckoff, NJ  07481.  Burial will be private on Monday.
