Obituary

Jean N. Avia (nee Niepokoy), 74, of Wyckoff passed away on March 21, 2021.  She was born in Western PA, and resided in Wyckoff for the past 50 years.  Jean recently worked as a medical receptionist for Bergen Medical Associates, previously with Dr. Hatefi for 15 years, and before that Dr. Tohme.  She was a loyal parishioner of St. Elizabeth’s Church in Wyckoff and assisted with the Saturday morning mass for years.

Devoted mother of Nancy Labbe and husband Larry from Georgia, Karen Avia from Florida, and Jody Bastien and husband Michael from Colorado.  She loved being a grandmother to Ryan, Emily, Sydney, and Quincy.  Jean was the second of four children from the late Chester and Nellie Niepokoy.  She is survived by her brothers Jim Niepoky and his wife Grace, Ken Niepokoy and his wife Marcia, and sister Kay Gladys and her husband Bob.   Jean loved her family dearly and enjoyed being a part of raising all her nieces and nephews and doting on her grandchildren.

Jean enjoyed spending time with “her peeps” and entertaining poolside in the summer.  She was well known for her Christmas Eve lasagna dinner that everyone looked forward to.  Jean was proud and embraced her Polish heritage. She will be greatly missed by many family members and friends alike.  God loved her so much she could not resist his call.
