Jean A. Lukert, age 81 of Mahwah died on Thursday, June 10, 2021. Jean was born in New Hope, NY, the youngest of 13 children, to Raymond and Helen Williams. Her early working career began with General Electric in Syracuse, NY. It was there, Jean met a co-worker, Howard F. Lukert, they fell in love and married in 1959. Jean and Howard moved to Wyckoff, where they raised their family and were active in the community for 35 years before moving to Mahwah. Jean and Howard had 40 wonderful years together prior to Howard’s passing in 2000. Jean was a very active member of Church of the Good Shepherd in Midland Park for 48 years before the church unified with Trinity Episcopal Church in Allendale, NJ in 2010. At Trinity, Jean served as the Pledge Secretary and as a member of the St. Mary’s Altar Guild. In 2015 the Episcopal Diocese of Newark recognized Jean with the David P. Hegg II Lifetime Achievement Award. Always active, Jean enjoyed playing bridge, walking, cooking and cheering for her team, the NY Mets. She is survived by her three loving children: Karen Roy (Gregory) of Mahwah, NJ, Nancy Celente (Albert) of Parsippany, NJ and Paul Lukert (Joann) of Lutz, FL. Left to carry on their Grandmother’s legacy are her six grandchildren: Amanda J. Roy, Elizabeth G. Celente Johnson (Matthew), Michael J. Celente, Catherine A. Celente, John P. Lukert and Patrick A. Lukert and her great grandson, Mekhai A. Johnson. Also surviving are her two sisters: Shirley A. Troendle of Clarks Summit, PA and Roberta Bush of East Aurora, NY. In addition to her husband Howard, Jean was also predeceased by her parents, Raymond and Helen Williams, her sisters: Ruby Fox, Virginia Armstrong, Norma Pullen and Helen Cogan and her brothers: Herman, Horace, Raymond, Arthur, Clark and Charles Williams. Visiting will be held on Tuesday, June 15, 2021 from 3:00 – 7:00 PM at Vander Plaat Funeral Home, www.vpfh.com, 257 Godwin Avenue, Wyckoff, NJ. A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, June 16, 2021 at 11:00 AM at Trinity Episcopal Church, 55 George Street, Allendale, NJ 07401. As an expression of sympathy, in lieu of flowers, donations in Jean’s memory may be made to Trinity Episcopal Church Memorial Fund.
